The Type XXVIIB U-Boat Seehund, nicknamed “Seal”, was a midget submarine developed by the German Kriegsmarine towards the end of World War II. Designed for covert missions and attacks on Allied shipping, the Seehund was one of the most effective midget submarines of its time. By the end of the war, 285 units had been built, and by January 1945, these submarines had taken an active part in combat, carrying out 142 missions and sinking 9 Allied ships. Despite Germany’s imminent defeat, the Seehund proved to be a formidable threat in the final naval battles of the conflict.
