This heavy-duty tow truck is faithfully reproduced by Thunder Model in 1/35 scale, with an unrivaled wealth of components for U.S. military vehicle enthusiasts. This kit contains over 580 plastic parts spread over 7 sprues, as well as clear parts, photo-etched (PE) parts, 3D printed elements, realistic metal chains and ropes. It is designed to provide an authentic rendering of the vehicle as it was used in the field, including its manual crane, transverse spare wheels and mechanically driven front winch.

The Ward LaFrance M1000 Series 1 is a heavy recovery truck developed in the United States in the early 1940s. Designed for use on the battlefield, it was used to tow disabled or damaged armored vehicles, including Sherman tanks. The first series, called “Series 1”, produced from 1941, presented a simplified design: no rear winch, manual crane, and front winch powered by the gearbox.
Its imposing structure, its massive bumper, and its cabin equipped with a powerful winch made it an indispensable tool within the motorized maintenance units of the US Army. It was used in Europe as well as in the Pacific until the end of the conflict, often seen as a “guardian angel” of mechanized units.
