The 1/35 scale Tamiya Schwimmwagen (35224) has been a benchmark for military modelers since 1998. This still-available kit reproduces the version with narrow 133mm tires. This variation, under reference number 35393, reproduces the version equipped with wide 200mm tires, along with various additional weapons and new figures! Crisscrossed by rivers and dotted with wetlands, the European continent presented serious military challenges, which led the Wehrmacht to develop the Schwimmwagen, an amphibious vehicle based on Ferdinand Porsche’s Kübelwagen. Powered by a 25hp, 1,130cc, 4-cylinder engine allowing it to reach 80 km/h on roads, the Schwimmwagen also had a three-bladed propeller at the rear, driven by the crankshaft, enabling it to travel at 10 km/h in water. Mounts on the central roll bar allowed for the attachment of Kar98k rifles and even Panzerfaust anti-tank guns, and at the rear, there was a folding soft top. The front windshield was often folded down and covered with a protective canvas. Due to raw material shortages, many vehicles had 133mm wide tires, but those equipped with 200mm tires performed better off-road. • Model kit to assemble and paint – 1/35 scale. Length: 113mm, width: 42mm. • Perfectly reproduced bodywork details based on the study of a real vehicle. • Realistic reproductions of the suspension and engine (presentable hood when open). • New sprue containing parts for the 200mm wide tires (in several parts to perfectly reproduce the tread pattern), wheels, MG34 machine gun, Panzerfaust 30 and Kar.98k rifle mounted on the vehicle, windshield with or without canvas cover, and other equipment (kits, helmets, etc.). • Two new figures (a driver and an officer) allowing for the creation of a diorama, possibly combined with other German vehicles. • Decal sheet with four sets of Wehrmacht license plates and two Luftwaffe plates, cap, sleeve, and collar insignia. • This kit does not replace ref. 35224, which remains available.
