This Expeditionary Force boxed set of 5 mounted British Life Guards figures is a typical British Life Guards unit from 1803 – 1815.
At the start of the French Revolutionary Wars, the “heavy” cavalry were equivalent to dragoons. They consisted of three regiments of Household Cavalry, seven regiments of Dragoon Guards and six regiments of Dragoons.
The Life Guards grew from the four troops of Horse Guards (founded in 1660’s), exclusively formed of gentlemen-troopers until the transformation of the last two remaining troops into Regiments of Life Guards in 1788 , from 1877, they simply became 1st Life Guards and 2nd Life Guards.
In 1815 they were part of The Household Brigade at the Battle of Waterloo under Major-General Lord Edward Somerset.
The Life Guards (LG) is currently the senior regiment of the British Army and part of the Household Cavalry, along with the Blues and Royals.
