The Porsche 901 – Where It All Began

First unveiled at the 1963 Frankfurt Motor Show, the Porsche 901 was intended to replace the successful 356 model. Designed by Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, the car featured a longer wheelbase, rear-mounted flat-six engine, and a sleek aerodynamic body. Due to a trademark dispute with Peugeot, Porsche renamed the 901 to the911shortly after the initial production run.
