Features
Cold War Aviation Legend
Step back into the dawn of supersonic reconnaissance with this Hobby Master RF-101C “Operation Sun Run” Voodoo. The aircraft’s polished aluminum finish and elegant delta-inspired form symbolize a turning point in aerial speed and endurance. Designed for high-altitude, high-speed photo reconnaissance, the RF-101C became one of the most advanced pre-Vietnam era aircraft in the U.S. Air Force arsenal.
The McDonnell RF-101C evolved from the F-101C fighter-bomber, replacing cannons and radar with cameras while maintaining a reinforced airframe. On November 27, 1957, RF-101C-40-MC “56-0165” completedOperation Sun Run— a daring coast-to-coast and return speed record attempt. Flying from Los Angeles to New York and back, the aircraft showcased its power by averaging speeds near Mach 1 across the United States. This mission solidified the Voodoo’s place in aviation history as the first jet to successfully complete such a feat.
This Hobby Master model reproduces “56-0165” in exceptional detail, featuring accurate surface paneling, antennas, and markings from its record-breaking flight. With its opening canopy, realistic cockpit, and included display stand, it’s an unmissable addition for Cold War or reconnaissance aircraft collectors.
