Product description : Dornier Do 217 K-1/K-2

The Dornier Do217 high-wing twin-engine bomber was widely used by the Luftwaffe during World War II. Available in different versions, it could carry out bombing missions, attacks against surface targets, or night fighters. The 217K version was distinguished in particular by a reinforced fuselage, a redesigned wing, and more powerful engines. It was designed to carry and use the Ruhrstahl SD 1400 “Fritz X” radio-controlled bomb, a true technological innovation for the time, mounted under the wings. In this configuration, the Do217K was mainly used in the Mediterranean theater of operations. On September 9, 1943, the Italian battleship Roma was hit and sunk by a Fritz X off the coast of Sardinia.
